Use and Contents
The Fault Model Set is used to demonstrate normal faulting (extension), reverse faulting (compression) and horizontal slip faulting (shear). The Tectonics Sand Layer Model is used to explore orogeny, or mountain building, of the Appalachian Mountains, including coal formation in the sedimentary Appalachian Basin and its coal seam, to build a sand-layer model mimicking a subduction zone of oceanic crust, and to simulate the creation of the San Andreas Fault. All materials needed for the demonstrations, including five different colours of sand, are included in the kit.
