Tangent Galvanometer

Tangent Galvanometer

Product Code : EL-PLE-13183
Eduscope India is a leading Tangent Galvanometer

Quick Answer: Tangent Galvanometer uses a wound coil and a compass needle to turn the tangent law into a working, adjustable-turns measurement of electric current.

The Tangent Galvanometer is a demonstration instrument that lets a class watch electricity and magnetism interact in real time, turning a simple wound coil and a compass needle into a working measurement of electric current. It is part of our physics lab equipment India range, one of the electronic lab instruments India colleges use for hands-on electromagnetism teaching.

How It Works
Two coils of insulated wire, wound with 5 and 10 turns around a 6" diameter plastic ring, stand upright on the instrument's base. Three binding posts let an instructor wire the coils into a single loop offering five, ten, or fifteen turns, so the same setup can be reconfigured for different trials without rewinding anything. A magnetic compass placed at the center of the ring lines up with magnetic north until current flows through the coil; the compass needle then swings toward the field created by the loop, coming to rest at some angle away from north. This is the tangent law in action: the strength of the coil's magnetic field is proportional to the tangent of that deflection angle, a relationship nineteenth-century physicists used to calculate unknown currents before ammeters were common laboratory tools.

EduScope India's physics equipment, including this Tangent Galvanometer, is exported to Southern African markets such as South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana, supporting school and college lab equipping in the region.

This instrument is also among the electronic lab instruments India EduScope India regularly supplies through bulk institutional and government lab-equipment orders, school chains and CSR-funded science-education programs.

Related Instruments
The Tangent Galvanometer pairs naturally with the Electromagnet Kit, which lets students wind and test their own current-carrying coils, and with the Deflection Magnetometer, another instrument that uses compass deflection to measure magnetic field strength.
