Construction and Specifications
The air-cushion table provides a 935mm x 750mm flat playing surface fed with air to virtually eliminate friction, with sheets of DIN A1 paper placed beneath the pucks so their tracks can be recorded as they move. Inkjet pucks, 100mm in diameter and 95mm high (approx. 365g without battery and ink cartridge), mark their own path directly onto the paper as they glide, and are powered by 9V, 300mAh NiMH batteries. The set is completed with a power supply, humidifier bases to keep the pucks marking cleanly, and an infrared remote control for triggering the pucks. A range of accessory kits extends the experiments that can be run on the table: kits for the peripheral movement of one inkjet puck, gravitational movement of two coupled pucks, uniformly accelerated movement (using 3 weights of 5cN each with a return pulley and rope), inclined movement, and circular motion. Foam rings and Velcro tapes allow inelastic shock to be studied, while additional weights and an airtight storage box for the ink cartridges round out the package.
