Van de Graaff Generator, Dual Drive
Product Code : EL-PLE-13155
Eduscope India is a leading Van de Graaff Generator, Dual Drive
Quick Answer: Van de Graaff Generator, Dual Drive is a large electrostatic generator offering BOTH hand-cranked and motor-driven operation, producing sparks 10cm long or more from a 28cm polished steel sphere.
Like all Van de Graaff machines, it uses a continuously moving insulating belt to mechanically carry electric charge up to a hollow metal sphere, where it accumulates on the outer surface and builds to a very high electric potential; this operating principle was devised by Robert J. Van de Graaff in 1929. This is the larger model in EduScope India's Van de Graaff range, part of the physics demonstration kit India collection under Physics Lab Equipment, and it uniquely offers alternative drive modes for classroom electrostatics demonstrations. The generator features a 28cm diameter polished steel sphere, chosen over a comparably sized aluminum sphere because polished steel better resists dents and scratches with repeated classroom use; the complete unit stands 76cm high, with overall dimensions of 38cm x 23cm x 76cm. Once set in motion it reliably delivers charge, producing sparks 10cm long or more immediately, even in high humidity. In hand-cranked mode the charge generated visibly increases at higher cranking speeds, while the faster motor-driven mode delivers a rapid succession of sparks. A further feature is a built-in lamp near the bottom of the belt that delivers a small amount of UV light when switched on; this promotes ionisation of the surrounding air, which increases charge leakage from the sphere and belt and can be seen to raise demand on the motor's power. The generator is supplied with a full accessory set: a discharge wand with grounding cord, an electric plume, an electric whirl, a discharge bulb, a connecting cord for other electrostatic demonstration items, a spare charge belt and a spare motor drive belt.

EduScope India's physics equipment, including this Van de Graaff Generator, is exported to North African markets such as Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, supporting college and university lab equipping in the region.
This generator is also part of the physics demonstration kit India range EduScope India regularly supplies through bulk institutional and government lab-equipment orders, school chains and CSR-funded science-education programs.
It is part of EduScope India's Physics Lab Equipment range. For smaller labs or lower budgets, the Van de Graaff Generator, Small Electric offers the same core principle in a compact, single motor-drive design. Those comparing generation methods may also consider the Wimshurst Generator, which builds charge through induction rather than a moving belt, while the Light Leaper Accessory can be used alongside either Van de Graaff generator to show additional electrostatic effects.
