The EduScope India Pith Ball Electroscope is a simple device used to detect the presence and type of electric charge on an object, and forms part of EduScope India's range of physics laboratory equipment.

Construction and specifications

It consists of a chrome-plated brass pillar mounted on a wooden base, carrying two lightweight pith ball spheres suspended on unspun silk threads. When a charged object is brought near, the pith balls are either attracted to or repelled by it, confirming the presence — and indicating the type — of electric charge.
