Construction and Specifications
The apparatus consists of a tube fitted with a riffled nozzle at each end, facing opposite directions, for the inlet and outlet of steam. It is supplied complete with three different metal rods — iron, aluminium and brass — so students can heat each rod through the same rise in temperature and compare their different linear expansion, clearly demonstrating that different metals expand by different amounts under identical heating.
