Resonance Apparatus

The EduScope India Resonance Apparatus is used to locate resonance positions in an air column, from which the speed of sound can be calculated using the water level and the frequency of a tuning fork, and forms part of EduScope India's range of physics laboratory equipment.

Construction and specifications

A heavy brass pipe is mounted alongside a meter scale, both fitted onto a superior-quality polished wooden board. The lower end of the brass tube is sealed into a metal cup with a side tube connected by rubber tubing to a reservoir, so that raising or lowering the reservoir changes the water level — and hence the length of the air column — inside the pipe. The length of the resonance column is read directly by measuring the distance between the zero stop and the closed end of the tube using the fitted meter rule.

This apparatus is used together with EduScope India's Sound tuning fork set, which supplies the tuning forks needed to excite resonance in the air column.
