Sonometer
Product Code : EL-PLE-16324
Eduscope India is a leading Sonometer
Quick Answer: The Sonometer is used to study the relationship between the frequency of a vibrating string and its length, tension and mass per unit length, making it essential physics lab equipment India schools and colleges rely on for sound and vibration practicals — a durable, export-ready choice for institutions sourcing laboratory equipment school India wide and overseas.
Construction and Specifications
The instrument comprises a hollow wooden sounding box fitted with a metre scale graduated in mm. Three wires of brass and steel are attached to a fixed bridge and tensioned by fine adjustment pegs, with two movable bridges for setting the vibrating length. A pulley and fixed screw allow a third wire to be tensioned using slotted masses, and the set is supplied complete with two bridges. Through the sonometer, students can investigate frequency, wavelength and resonance in vibrating strings, and — using a tuning fork from EduScope India's Sound tuning fork set — verify the laws of transverse vibrations. For a two-mount design with lever tensioning, EduScope India also offers this Sonometer in a two-string type as a separate product option.
