Construction
The coil is wound on a clear acrylic former with a 90mm diameter, keeping anything placed inside the coil clearly visible throughout an experiment. Five red binding posts run alongside the winding, and moving a single plug between them taps off 100, 200, 300, 400 or 500 turns without disturbing the rest of the coil. Across the full winding the coil presents a total resistance of 20 Ω, working out to 4 Ω per 100 turns, and a single 100-turn segment can safely carry up to 1.5A, making the solenoid suitable for use with a simple 6VDC power source — one of the electronic lab instruments India physics departments rely on for hands-on electromagnetism teaching.
