How the Experiment Works
One half of the balance is placed inside a solenoid, while the other half is fitted with an adjustable counterweight and can carry light additional masses. When current is supplied to both the balance and the solenoid from an external power supply, the interaction between the current and the magnetic field causes the balance to deflect. Adding light masses to the balance until it returns to its original position lets students measure the exact force acting on the conductor, giving a direct, hands-on measurement of the relationship between current, magnetic field, and force. As one of the electronic lab instruments India colleges use to teach this relationship quantitatively, it rewards careful, repeatable classroom use.
