Construction
This unit steps up from the range's double-wall verticals with a triple wall, double chamber build: the inner chamber, middle chamber and outer wall are all fabricated in stainless steel, with the ring in stainless steel/mild steel. Rather than sitting empty as plain insulation, the middle chamber works as a steam stock jacket, holding a reserve of steam around the inner chamber so the vessel retains heat between cycles and reaches a higher working pressure than the single-jacketed, double-wall models elsewhere in the range. The stainless steel lid is drawn down by radial arms turned through a steering wheel in chrome-plated mild steel, spreading closing force evenly around the rim, and the assembly is leak-proof so pressure built up in the steam jacket is held rather than lost at the seams.
Operating pressure and safety fittings
The steam stock jacket gives this model the same rated range as the rest of the vertical autoclaves, 5 to 20 psi, but holds it more consistently through longer or repeated cycles. On the standard saturated-steam pressure/temperature relationship, that range runs from roughly 109°C at 5 psi up to about 126°C at 20 psi, with 121–126°C (15–20 psi) the typical operating band for standard steam sterilization. Fittings include a pressure gauge, a safety valve, a double safety valve, a steam release valve, a rubber gasket, an inner container, an S.S. bucket and mild steel legs. Because it is built for higher-pressure, higher-volume cycles, this model also adds a layer of electronic monitoring not fitted to the simpler vertical units: a pressure control switch, a low water cut-off, a digital timer, a digital temperature display and an alarm/buzzer that together track the cycle and flag low water or an out-of-range pressure automatically.
